Buttermilk, 1 cup | 1 tbsp vinegar/lemon juice and enough milk to make 1 cup. Allow to sit for 10 minutes or 1 cup yogurt |
Cake Flour, 1 cup | 1 cup minus 2 tbsp all-purpose flour or 1 cup minus 2 tbsp all-purpose + 2 tbsp cornstarch, sifted several times (6 should be enough) |
Chicken Broth | Vegetable Broth |
Chinese Black Vinegar | Balsamic Vinegar |
Chinese Cooking Wine, 3 tbsp | 2 tbsp orange juice + 1 tbsp rice vinegar |
Chinese Rice Wine, 2 tsp | 1 tsp apple cider vinegar + 1 tsp water |
Chipotle Chillies in Adobo Sauce Quantity: 3 | 1/2 tsp liquid smoke + 2 minced jalapenos + 3 tbsp ketchup (have not tried this yet) |
Dry Sherry | Orange Juice |
Dry White Wine | Chicken or Vegetable Broth |
Heavy Cream in pasta and curries | Sour Cream (I always use low fat) |
Self Rising Flour 1 cup | 1 cup all-purpose flour + 1 1/2 tsp baking powder + 1/4 tsp salt |

ReplyDeletethis is a great list! deifnitely makes life easier. you can also substitute eggs with applesauce... works well but you need to play with quantities of course...

DeleteI use applesauce as a substitute for oil in all my baking/desserts, it works well!
