Nairn's Oat Snacks {Review}

It can be a challenge to find new and healthy snacks.  I also find it a struggle staying away from sweet treats as well.  When I got the opportunity to try some of Nairn's Oat Cookies and Crackers I was excited to discover some new snacks that wouldn't make us feel guilty about eating them.

Nairn's is a Scottish company that has been around since 1896.  What differentiates Nairn's Oat Cookies and Crackers is that they are made with oats unlike many other cookies and crackers that are made with refined wheat.  We all know how healthy oatmeal is for us.  It takes longer to digest which results in us feeling full for a longer period time.

In our home, we all have a sweet tooth so we started out sampling the Oat Cookies which come in Mixed Berries, Dark Chocolate Chip and Stem Ginger.  The cookies are not overly sweet but do satisfy a craving for a treat.  The Mixed Berries and Dark Chocolate Chip flavours were hits in our home.  The Stem Ginger flavour gives a punch of ginger which the boys found to be too spicy.  The typical ginger cookies you buy really don't taste anything like ginger.  Nairn's Stem Ginger Oat Cookies are bursting with a fresh ginger taste.  If you are looking for an overly sweet, decadent cookie these Oat Cookies would not be for you.  I liked having a couple of Nairn's Oat Cookies to replace my dessert.

Nairn's also has a selection of Oat Crackers.  They come in Organic, Roughly Milled, Cheese and Sunflower Seeds. Our favourites were the Sunflower Seeds and Cheese.  We loved how crispy the Sunflower Seed Crackers were.  They were more like traditional crackers where as the rest of them were softer and more dry.  The Organic and Roughly Milled were more dry and would pair better with a topping such as hummus or cheese.

Overall, we liked that these were treats we could enjoy without feeling overly guilty.  They do not contain artificial flavours, colours or preservatives.  Each box has the crackers and cookies packed in 4 different packs.  This worked out great for me because I find my boys will open up a box of snacks and very quickly will start asking for something else to try.  With the pouches, I find that I won't end up having opened boxes of snacks going stale.

You can find Nairn's Oat Cookies and Crackers in major grocery stores across Canada.  Their products are also widely available throughout the UK.  Thank you Nairn's for the opportunity to try out your Oat Cookies and Crackers!

  1. It is indeed a struggle trying to find healthy treats for the kiddos as well as staying away from sweet stuff myself :). I do not think I've seen this product here in the US?
