Strawberry Lemonade {SRC}

It's time again for The Secret Recipe Club.  This month I was assigned Fran's Favs.  Fran is an Italian Foodie and a very experienced cook.  I loved going through her recipes and first was stuck on her Twinkie Clone recipe.  It was the first recipe I saw and it immediately made me think of Baba (my father).

I love Twinkies and every once in awhile Baba would buy a box for my brother and I.  It never took us very long to go through it.  Back in January when Baba was hospitalized you could tell he knew things weren't going well.  He was very emotional and told my mom to give me $20 to buy Hasan and Bilal lots of junk food.  It is very rare that I have seen my father cry and it was that moment that I knew he knew things weren't going to get better.  So with that $20 I got the boys cookies, chips and Twinkies.  Less than a month later he passed away.  Prior to Baba passing away he gave me another $20 to buy them some more junk food.  I still have it and a part of me doesn't want to spend it but soon I will go and get the boys some more Twinkies and lots of junk food just like their Nana wanted.

But for this month's Secret Recipe Club assignment I didn't make the Twinkie Clones mainly because we are in Ramadan and I find that we are not eating very many desserts.  But we are making lots of smoothies and drinks so when I saw Fran's Fresh Strawberry Lemonade I knew it would be perfect for Iftaar (the meal to break our fast).  I made it in the day and had Hasan give it a taste.  He said it was very good just needed to be cold.  Both the boys and I loved it!  It had a perfect balance of strawberry and lemonade.  Only the husband wasn't on board but that just meant more for the rest of us!  I don't give Bilal juice but since this was homemade I let him have some.  Both boys were asking for more!  I made half the recipe and that is what I have posted below  Thanks Fran for sharing this Frantastic recipe!

Fresh Strawberry Lemonade
Adapted from Fran's Favs

1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 3 lemons)
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup sliced, fresh strawberries
2 cups cold water

In a blender combine lemon juice and sugar for 30 seconds.  Add strawberries and puree.  Transfer to  a jug and add cold water.  Stir and serve chilled.
