Gajar ka Mitha {Carrot Halwa}

A bowl of Gajar ka Mitha (Carrot Halwa) garnished with sliced almonds.

It is well known in our family that my mom makes some of the best Hyderabadi desserts.  Her Badaam ki Jaali and Puran Puri are two of the most loved desserts she makes.  The desserts are definitely labour intensive.  I remember growing up helping her peeling the almonds for desserts and always being asked to go give the mixture on the stove a stir.

Healthy Whole Wheat Butterscotch Carrot Muffins

Where has the time gone?  Ramadan is already half over!  I hope we are all doing our best to make the most of this blessed month.  With the end of Ramadan approaching it also mean Eid Eats is coming up.  I had told you all about Eid Eats in my post for Chicken Kheema.  Eid Eats is a virtual potluck where we all "bring" a dish we would serve on Eid.  I hope you will join in with us.  You can find all the details in this post.  The link up is on June 20, 2017. I hope that you can join us!

Ginger Edamame Macaroni Salad with Catelli's Gluten Free Macaroni {Giveaway}

Recently I had the pleasure to attend an Exclusive Gluten Free Pasta Event at George Brown College sponsored by Catelli.  Back in September, Catelli had launched their Gluten Free Pasta line which included penne, fusilli and spaghetti.  You can read my review here.  With the success of the gluten free line, they recently added macaroni.  Our host for the evening was Chef John Higgins.  Chef Higgins is director of George Brown Chef School, former personal chef to the Queen Mother and a judge on Food Network's Chopped Canada.

Beef and Broccoli Brown Rice Bowl & The Canadian Living Blogger Network

Some of you may have noticed the new badge on my site for The Canadian Living Blogger Network.  This is something I'm very excited about.  I was chosen to be part of this new blogger network.  Today I am doing my first post for them by recreating in my kitchen Canadian Living's recipe for Beef and Broccoli Brown Rice Bowl.  I was a little nervous before attempting this recipe as I have never cooked steak before.  Usually when I make a recipe that calls for steak I substitute pasanday which I believe are veal cutlets.

Carrot Cake

My husband loves carrot cake and I've been searching for a great recipe for awhile.  In the end I ended up at Cook's Illustrated and of course the recipe was a winner!  I'm not a fan of a lot of icing on carrot cakes.  I find it takes away from the cake and it becomes more about the icing than the cake.  I like to have a very thin layer of cream cheese frosting.  Originally I was drizzling it on which would be a better presentation but I screwed that up and I ended up spreading it.  I tell you I always have big dreams about how I'm going to decorate a cake and in my mind it looks amazing but I have yet to execute any of my ideas well.  For this icing I used a little bit of cream cheese and mixed in some icing sugar to taste.

August Morning Muffins {SRC}

It's time for Secret Recipe Club once again!  This month I was assigned The Gingered Whisk written by Jenni.  I love how the food she writes about is the food they actually eat..which is what I also do!!  Jenni also loves to read and even has a list of her favorite books!  Every since I had Bilal I haven't read a single book...seeing Jenni's list really has me thinking I need to make some time to get back into reading.

Black Bean and Vegetable Chili

My husband is always wanting me to make more vegetarian meals and I've been wanting to make chili for awhile now so I decided to make this recipe this week.  It's been years since I made this.  When I had made it before I didn't know the difference between chili powder and the red chilli powder we use in Indian cooking.  I thought they were the same thing.  The recipe called for 1 tbsp chili powder.  That seemed an insane amount to me and I thought it would be way too spicy.  I reduced it but it was still pretty spicy.  Now I understand that the recipe was not calling for what is labelled in the Indian grocery stores as Red Chilli Powder.
